Nintendo has spruced up the Wii shop channel this year already. On Wii Ware we now have Sandy Beach available and on Virtual Console we have Kirby's Dream Land 3 available. Each title is available for 500 and 800 points respectively.

A vulnerability has been found which apparently crashes the PSP 3000 on firmware v4.20. It certainly is not an exploit just yet and more tests have shown that the crash does not occur on firmware 5.00.

VG Chartz is reportedly denoting that Wii Sports has surpassed Super Mario Bros and is now the world's most popular video game. It is claimed that Wii Sports has gone better than the 1985 hit NES version of Super Marios Bros.

Peter Molyneux of Lionhead Studios has been quoted by the BBC as stating that things look dry for exciting games in 2009. He noted that all the triple A titles come out over Christmas and at the top of his head, he can not think of anything that really excites him. Editors from Variety have named their most overrated games of 2008. Two out of the four editors mention GTA IV, while three out of the four mention Little Big Planet. Elsewhere, Braid, Fallout 3, Professor Layton and the Curious Village and Castle Crashers all get a mention.

Research from MarketShare denotes that PS3 users are far more likely to use their console for internet browsing than those with a Wii. The gap between the PS3 and Wii is pretty big, as the Wii has 0.01% of the internet browser market share, while the PS3 has 0.04%.

A new book called the Race for a New Game Machine reveals how a designer of the Cell chip as used in the PS3 felt 'contaminated' by Xbox. The reason for this is that it seems that Sony accidentally helped out MS with game consoles!

Zune boards are full of hundreds of complaints from owners of the Microsoft Zune (in particular the 30GB). At about midnight last night, loads just began to freeze and became unresponsive. Looks like MS is potentially facing another consumer product crisis. More complaints can be seen at Zune.net.

Things have gone back to normal as Call of Duty: World at War replaces FIFA 09 at the top of UK charts for the week ending December 27th (Gfk data). Elsewhere, Need for Speed: Undercover, Mario Kart Wii and Wii Play made up the top five.

According to Reisinger of Cnet, Sony needs to cut the price of the PS3 but just can't do it. Sony's apparently unwilling to admit it, but with all the financial trouble, Sony is trying to turn a profit and limit losses in order to ensure shareholders happy. Thus, Sony is keeping is the prices high but its not selling as many units as it wants, but Sony is now finding out that it's not a good time to be a value leader instead of a cost leader in this difficult economic climate.

A number of gamers are complaining about an annoying glitch in Little Big Planet which affects save data in regards to the game. The effects include progression disappearing in level packs and even the deletion of user created content! More at Littlebigworkshop.

Someone has gone and shoved an Xbox 360 into the PS3's casing. But critics believe they haven't done it so well, poor soldering, loose hard drive placement and no solid way to hold the internal components in place are some of the reasons they denote.
